Mindless Action: Police Story

Jackie Chan is the king of action movies that need no plot, and Police Story is no exception as the story was purely afterthought. But that lands this movie squarely in the mindless action category because if you drift in and out of the story, you won't enjoy it one iota less.

The plot unfolds something like this: Jackie Chan is a police officer tasked with keeping a witness safe who, for the most part, doesn't want to be kept from the person she's going to testify against. Subsequently, that person frames Jackie for murder and the only person that can clear him is the witness herself.

The action: Some of the most ambitious, well shot, and ultimately endlessly
ripped off stunts (like in Bad Boys 2, or Tango and Cash), it's hard not to call this movie a classic.

Mindless action: This movie might fit our theme best this month as the story was literally written to tie the larger stunts in the movie together.

If you've never seen Police Story, you're missing out...

Mindless Action Movies: John Wick

John Wick is one of those movies we LOVE showing people for the first time. People are often skeptical about how good an action movie staring Keanu Reeves could be, and if you're finding yourself in that crowd right now, let us list some ways that John Wick is fantastic:

1) This movie is STUFFED with cameos from the likes of Willem Dafoe, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, Clarke Peters, and Kevin Nash.

2) It is Dripping with stylized color.

3) The story is minimal, but the action is wall to wall.

4) Keanu Reeves is amazing in it. Just look at him training for the sequel:

5) John Wick might be sparse on story, but the way they build characters and world are very smart. Intricate worlds and story lines are suggested, but only enough to let your imagination run wild.

But don't take our word for, if you love action movies, bump this to the top of your list today!( But please for the love of all that is good, do not watch a trailer, they are all super terrible.)

From Sport to Silver Screen: Double Team

Both the stars of this film tried their hands at sports careers and then moved into acting, though each had a better time with one over the other... This doozie's lineup also includes 90s Mickey Rourke and it's amazing.

The IMDB plot summary: Counter-terrorist Jack Quinn misses his target, Stavros, on the eve of his final mission. From there, he is sent to "The Colony", a rebirth for presumed-dead assassins. He breaks free from there, and seeks the aid of Yaz, a weapons dealer, for his final battle with Stavros.

Opening weirdness: At the start of this film JCVD's character is basically sent to the Village from the Prisoner.

Epic ending: SPOILER clearly. This film ends with the baddie blowing himself up to avoid being mauled by a tiger, but the explosion causes the coliseum to also explode forcing the heroes to take shelter behind one of the MANY soda machines in the halls.
