Tape Freaks Presents: the 9:30pm Showing of Star Wars Holiday Special at the Bryant Lake Bowl

For the twentieth year in a row, our friend Chris Grap will be trading Toys for Tots toy donations for the chance to witness the mind-melting Star Wars Holiday Special in the only safe space there is to experience it: a darkened theater, surrounded by likeminded nerds, with plenty of sustenance and imbibement close at hand.

But for the 20th birthday of this tradition, Chris has decided to do things a bit differently. This year each showing will feature a different cohost, and guess who's cohosting the late show? If you guessed Tape Freaks, you guessed correct! Tim has printed up a tee shirt for the occasion, put together a 15 min pre-show, and made buttons for each attendee to take on their way out! [And since I'm writing this at 5am, and hadn't read the description of our screening until just now, I might be writing some silly trivia questions just incase, because I don't recall the sleeping half of Tape Freaks saying anything about trivia recently...]

How does one attend a depraved event such as this? Well starting at noon today, show organizer Chris will be at the door of the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater. Bring your toy donation to him, and he will give you a ticket to the screening of your choice! It's first come first pick, so if there's a showing you'd like to attend, get there by noon for the best chance to nab tickets to your preferred screening. (And if you have a donation but don't want to stick around for the screening, that's fine too!) Come donate toys, watch an abomination, bowl a few frames, stuff your face with nachos, or all of the above! Click here or the photo below for more information.

Our showing is the 10:00 pm show, but things will get started at 9:30 so don't be late!

Tape Freaks Presents: July's Mystery Movie!

Well, I knew I had let the blog fall by the wayside, but no posts since January?! Time is a construct. I also knew it was the week of the 4th, but somehow also thought it was like September this morning... sigh.

STILL SOLD OUT FOR ALL POSTED SHOWS.

BUT!!! If you come early (or not so early even) there are always a handful of tickets available at the door. (Thanks to the kind patrons who reach out to the Trylon to release their tickets when they find they cannot attend!) So come early and try your luck if you missed tickets!

This month's move theme: The unexpected.

Hints: We've watched so many films from this month's director, and we're no where near the halfway point of his catalogue. We screened this movie early on and it's still talked about amongst those of us who bore witness. One of those witnesses somehow found a better version than we've ever been able to find (not for lack of seeking), so anyone repeating this viewing is in for a treat!

Content Warnings: Gun violence.

If you have other content concerns, feel free to reach out (facebook or email at info@TimMonsters.com) and we will happily address any concerns, big or small. We want fun surprises for everyone!

Mutual Aid Suggestion: Self care. And I don't mean a bubble bath, I mean something like allowing yourself to reassess what is serving you in your life and what needs to be cut out. That's probably the example I thought of because that's what I (Colette, the writing half of Tape Freaks) have been doing the last week! (If you need order-from-chaos inspiration, I've been watching this lady's organizing videos.) Take the time to assess and improve your space, friendships, and mental health this month, you're absolutely worth it!

The First Screening of 2025!

STILL SOLD OUT FOR ALL POSTED SHOWS.

This year we will be re-screening some of our past movies in honor of our 10 year anniversary! We're starting out with one that we originally screened to a smaller sized audience, and we feel it deserves to be appreciated by far more people.

This month's move theme: So nice, let's watch it twice!!

Hints: This month's genre-mashing movie is subtitled, and the director has directed a total of four films we've screened!

Content Warnings: No content warnings this month, but if you ever have concerns, always feel free to reach out.

If you have other content concerns, feel free to reach out (facebook or email at info@TimMonsters.com) and we will happily address any concerns, big or small. We want fun surprises for everyone!

Mutual Aid Suggestion: This past month the Tape Freaks household lost its most beloved member, Drake. We brought Drake and his littermate Steed into our home nearly 20 years ago, and words cannot express the void his absence has left to the rest of the two and four legged family members he left behind. So this month the mutual aid suggestion is to assist someone struggling to keep a pet in their life, whether someone you personally know, or through supporting organizations like North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center. And if you're thinking about bringing a new pet into your family, do so through adoption. We were Drake and Steed's third home when we got them from a friend [who'd bitten off FAR more than he could chew with those two], and they weren't even a full year old. There are so many flat-out amazing critters out there that need homes, never choose any option but adoption.

Drake ❤
